Review Policy

When choosing books to read and review:

  • I believe strongly in using my energy and platform to uplift the voices of marginalised authors, particularly if they are writing Own Voices content.

  • I aim to read diversely in terms of content and creators.

  • I am open to reading and reviewing books from any genre and format.

When reviewing books, I aim to take into account:

  • The quality of the representation of marginalised groups including: LGBTQIA+ characters; disabled characters; characters of colour.

  • I mention in my reviews if this representation is Own Voices (if no information is available online and I cannot contact the author, I will say 'unsure' rather than making assumptions).

  • If my review is not Own Voices, I will promote other reviews which are (e.g. by sharing links to them via Twitter).

  • If a book is written in a typeface which is not accessible for dyslexic readers I will mention this in my review, but it will not affect my star rating. I am not personally dyslexic but have accreditation from the British Dyslexia Association (BDA), and use BDA guidance to decide if a typeface is likely to be an accessibility issue for dyslexic readers.

I only write reviews for books which I have read in full. If I do not finish (DNF) a book for any reason I might mention it on here or on social media, but I will not review or rate it.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions at all, please do get in touch.
